LeDUO isn't about spectacle or hype. When LeDUO plays, the busy distractions of daily existence somehow fade into the background. That something that deeply touches our soul is neither an accident nor the result of an elaborate strategy. Their music resonates from a tender, sweet and essential complicity that began in their first encounter more than ten years ago in a club in St Remy de Provence. Soon after they met there was a birthday party for Francois, and Perrine gave him the album Money Jungle by Duke Ellington, Charles Mingus & Max Roach, which happened to be produced by Alan Douglas.
In 2005, Alan Douglas heard a song by Perrine & Francois on a compilation he found by accident in a store and decided to contact LeDUO for a project that he had been thinking about for several years. "Alan seemed quite determined. It sounds surreal, but his call came at exactly the moment when we were ready to record as a duo," Francois explains. Douglas' idea was to record a series of albums dedicated to the greatest French singer-song writers. Jacques Brel and Charles Aznavour were chosen for the first two volumes. LeDUO met the challenge with enthusiasm and excitement. Everything came together quickly: the choice of songs, the arrangements, the recording. Today, these records bear witness to the beautiful and profound humanity of Brel and Aznavour, and LeDUO's admirable ability to capture and communicate it.
UFO is proud to represent LeDUO Plays Jacques Brel and LeDUO Plays Charles Azavour.
