Aquarian Weekly
By Noah Ruede
Folk-rock singer/songwriter Jess Klein will be gracing the Outpost In The Burbs in Monclair, NJ. on Oct 20. Her performance marks the beginning of a tour in support of her sixth studio release, City Garden, out Oct. 10.
Ms. Klein's soulful, outspoken and sometimes heartbreaking lyrics are expressed through her unmistably passionate warm voice and have gamered her masses of long-time, dedicated fans. She released and toured for her first two albums independently before signing to Rykodisc in 2000. After a tour in Japan that earned her thousands more fans overseas, she moved to New York to begin a new phase in her creative life.
Jess Klein's roots in the blues and in folk are unmistakable. Although her music's actual genre is difficult to place, Klein cites influences ranging from The Stones to Bruce Springsteen. She broke new ground with her latest album, whose songs she has begun to perform live. Although all of her work is emotionally intense, this may ber her deepest work yet. Audience members often report that her latest material moved them to tears. The CD will be released through the indie label United For Opportunity.
Doors at The Outpost open at 8 p.m. and the performance is all ages. Tickets are $17 in advance and $20 at the door. Joining her will be singer/songwriter Sloan Wainwright.
